Mardi Gras, part deux

So funny story. I thought LAST Tuesday was Mardi Gras. But it's TODAY! Oops, oh well. Shouldn't Mardi Gras need to be celebrated a whole week, to prep for Lent? I think so. I made a King Cake last week, and forgot to share photos, see below.

It was a yeast-based bread flavored with lemon zest
(with lemons from our Meyer Lemon tree).

I cut the sugar in the drizzle. I'm not a huge fan overly iced King Cakes, but it was really fun to make the colors and drip the icing on the cake.

Another photo, because I was really excited that I made it from scratch.

Mr. W cutting into the cake.
It was cream cheese filled, but not a sweet filling.

Overall, it was a nice bread, but I think I would have preferred more of a brioche consistency. Next time!

Okay, so back to today. I can celebrate again can't I? I mean, it's not like I went way BIG last week. I really didn't. I thought no one cared, but now I know, it's because I had the week wrong. People do care - in fact, there's a King Cake (and donuts) in the agency kitchen.

I snapped a photo of the 1/2 eaten cake. It looks awfully sugary. I wonder if anyone found the baby yet.

Happy Mardi Gras everyone! Laissez les bons temps rouler! XO
